While creating my first mosaic in the 3rd grade using construction paper and glue, I fell in love with the meticulousness of the craft. So involved was that first masterpiece that I received an unsatisfactory grade- certainly because my teacher felt I was just taking too damn long. Consequently, I spent many a recess in the classroom working to complete it.
After finishing college, I was looking for a new hobby and meddled with creating mosaics once again- this time using photography as my medium. My beautiful wife Tessa takes most of the photos I use in my mosaics. I have also been fortunate to collaborate with another exceptional photographer, Christopher Foster, on a larger project of the Golden Gate Bridge (pictured above.) An 8×10 inch mosaic generally takes between 12 and 15 hours, while the Golden Gate Bridge took approximately 150 hours to complete.
Currently, I live and work in San Diego, California with students of different abilities.
